Monkeypox virus heat inactivated culture fluid (Isolate: USA/MA001/2022) is an enveloped double‐stranded DNA virus with a genome size of around 190 kb. It belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus of the Poxviridae family. Monkeypox virus, hMPXV/USA/MA001/2022 was isolated from a human in Massachusetts, USA in May of 2022, during an outbreak of monkeypox.1 Monkeypox virus, hMPXV/USA/MA001/2022 belongs to Clade IIb (previously west African clade) and lineage B.1.2 The complete genome of monkeypox virus, hMPXV/USA/MA001/2022 has been sequenced (GenBank: ON563414.3 and GISAID: EPI_ISL_13052289).

Each frozen aliquot contains 1 mL of heat inactivated viral culture fluid. The pre-inactivation titer was determined from an infectious aliquot.

Viral inactivation is verified after heat inactivation by the absence of viral growth in tissue culture-based infectivity assays.

Heat inactivated viral culture fluids are sold as consumable testing materials. The suitability and performance characteristics should be determined by your laboratory for each intended usage.

Inactivated Monkeypox virus should be used within a Biological Safety Level 2 (BSL-2) facility in a biosafety cabinet (BSC). Please consult your institution’s regulations regarding the use of this product. • Repetitive freezing and thawing is not recommended (aliquot material if necessary).

Heat inactivated viral culture fluids should be stored at -65°C or below.
